We source our finishing products (polyurethanes, oils and stains) from a range of suppliers so we can find the right finish to best suit your needs. We pride ourselves on providing a high end finish for timber floors you will love.

Keeping in mind your specific needs, you may want a surface finish best suited to wear and dirt, high foot traffic or minimal maintenance. Timber finishes come in a range of specifications such as polyurethanes, oils, waxes and stains. You also have the option of finishes in matt, satin, semi-gloss or high gloss.

Water Based Polyurethane

The water based polyurethanes are now the most common finish used in New Zealand and most other parts of the world.

The water based products contain much less toxic chemicals (if any at all) than the traditional solvent based polyurethanes, therefore they have much less smell or lingering solvent.

The water based technology has also caught up with the durability and resilience of its solvent counterpart.

Solvent Based Polyurethane

In today’s market, the solvent based products are used more to achieve a heavier layer of coatings or to bring out the darker colour tones in many of our native NZ timbers.

It is still believed to have a better wear layer than the water based however, they perform much the same if compared against a higher grade water based polyurethane.

Oil Finishes

Oil finishes are great for showing the true natural finish of any wood surface including timber flooring.  Oils are available in a large range of colours and different brands can be sourced, each with their own look.  At Just Timber Floors, we love the look and feel given by the Osmo Oil range.

Staining & Blonding
